Nordic Harp Meeting

Václava (Wendy) van der Meijs has been playing the harp since 2003. However, folk music has been part of her life since childhood, whether it was playing the piano or participating in orchestras, bands, and choirs. Through her involvement with the Harp Society, Harpa Vieja community, and the duo Tinnu, she immersed herself in Irish harp folklore. With bands like Gwen, Treizh, and occasional appearances with Ba.Fnu, she explored the realms of Bal Folk and the folk music of Brittany. In 2008, she joined the organizational team of the Nordic harp meeting, an annual event held in a different Nordic country, featuring various folk stringed instruments alongside the harp. Yet, one doesn’t need to venture far for folk harp music, as Bohemia, as well as neighboring Austria and Bavaria, boast rich traditions in this art. Wendy approaches playing with the curiosity and playfulness akin to a child, a quality evident in her teaching style.
